Hidden jewels in Barcelona

Posted in Local's Proposals by eugenecarroll on 22 November 2009

Barcelona hiddens jewels that can be discovered in just one day, but you do not really know them till you fall in love with the city itself. Then, Barcelona becomes magical. To reach this stage, stroll an autumn or spring morning across the Born district, do some shopping, enjoy with no hastes the Picasso museum or  feel dazzled with the superb Santa Maria del Mar  basilica.

At midday, look for a good terrace and enjoy a delicious meal with good wine, looking at the same time people going up and down.

In the afternoon, head to Rambla Catalunya or Passeig de Gràcia and in the evening a romantic dinner in slope of the Tibidabo hill admiring the lights of a city that never sleeps. Although this is one of my favourite proposals, there are a lot more, but, as in love, everyday becomes an indelible memory that makes the city a bit more ours.

A walk to Tibidabo Av. on Sunday’s afternoon…

Posted in Local's Proposals by eugenecarroll on 22 November 2009

In spring and in autumn I love on Sunday’s afternoon to go up for a walk to Tibidabo Av. and to wander around the high part of Bonanova, that on weekends is almost empty,

… you feel that you have the city for your own.

Once I’ve reached Ronda de Dalt and admired the panoramic view from there, I begin to descend passing by Bellesguard house (a work by Gaudí) and the magnificent buildings of renowned religious private schools. The last stop of this pleasant journey is at Foix de Sarrià where I enjoy a sublime Crema Catalana ice cream, that on it’s own, worths a visit to Barcelona.

The guide book that President Zapatero has given to President Obama is Dorling Kindersley’s Barcelona & Catalonia.

It’s a good book that leaves yearning for more, Be a Local offers that more.

Extra virgin oil from the first pressing in cold is said to be the best oil you can taste.

All along November several villages in Catalonia celebrate fairs to celebrate the new oil of the year. It’s a pleasure to taste this oil with the country bread or dressing a fresh salad.

.

A lot has been said about the best bread or the best croissant in Barcelona, but few about

the best classical muffin (madalena).

Our favourite is prepared in La Rourera.
