Celebrating the Earth and the Ages
The Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers is ideal for the development of the olive tree.
From mid-November till mid-January many small cities and villages in Catalonia host the new oil festivals. Ancient civilisations established in the land between Tarragona and Lleida and began the cultivation of olive trees in order to obtain the precious “liquid gold”.
This weekend we are opening the season taking our guests to an elegant rural venue that makes a special celebration of the soil. The oil that’s produced has been awarded as “2009 best pure olive oil in Spain” by the Ministry of Agriculture. We will have the opportunity to understand the oil processing in a unique environment.
We’ll get up early in the morning and drive one hour south from Barcelona to get a cute rural hotel 1 hour drive from Barcelona. This venue, built on pre-Romanic foundations, houses a hotel, a restaurant, a conventions resort, a cellar boutique, and an oil mill that is set in the middle of a vast estate where olive groves and vineyards have always been maintained. There we’ll receive a private explanation of all the oil production process, afterwards a country-breakfast will be served.
In the afternoon, a visit to Reus, Gaudí’s birthplace and where he lived before leaving for Barcelona. Reus is an elegant and commercial city. Some of the most elegant fashion and jewellery shops that have established in Barcelona have their origins in Reus.
After a relaxing stay in the hotel, next morning, we’ll head to the close Santes Creus Monastery and will feel transported back to Medieval Ages.
